Treatment for Music Magazine Production

Treatment for Music Magazine Production

Title of my production: VibratoPress
Genre: Classic/Punk/Pop/Hard Rock, New Wave

Brand identity of and values of my magazine:

My magazine’s message will be of the rock genre (and the songs featured within the rock charts) and will focus on both older and more recent artists. In addition, a range of different artists of different sub-genres will be included (such as punk rock and classic rock); this will be an attempt to get a wider target audience, both older and younger people. As this magazine will believe in all artists, this magazine will feature recently banded who are involved in today's music industry.

What contents will be featured in my magazine:

My magazine, VibratoPress, will feature both established and contemporary artists in order to present the full breadth of the rock genre. As this is mainly a guitar magazine, it will feature guitarists and thus guitar tutorials on the side.

Intended target audience for my product:

Looking at my questionnaire’s results, I can see that my main demographic is young males (aged 15-24). However, as I am including more established artists and classic rock, it will allow my magazine to acquire the older demographic – which widens my target market.

What representations will I include in my magazine?

My front cover will include a guitarist, dressed in casual attire with a neat hairstyle with a guitar around his neck. He will be in a pose which is strumming his guitar. This a particularly stereotypical representation of rock, but I believe it is the best representation of the genre.

What will my magazine look like?

From my mock up designs, I have chosen the main house style for VibratoPress as red and its relating warm colours to symbolize the genre of rock. I believe this particular house style suits the genre of rock the best.

Survey results analysis

From the results of the first question, it is evident that most of the participants are male (at 65.2%). However, there were an amount of females that answered my survey as well (30.4%). This shows the gender proportion of my potential target audience, and thus proves the statement made in my ideology for VibratoPress.

From the results, I can see that the majority of the participants (87%) are within the 15-24 year old range, with 8.7% being 10-14 year olds. This lets me know the kind of artists I need to include in my magazine, and also the overall house style.

From the results of this question, I can see (within the JICNAR scale) where the majority of the participants lie. The majority are within the C2 boundary (34.8%), with other sections (D, E, C1 and B) being in the minority. This shows how the genre of rock doesn't influence a person's social status, corroborating with the statements made in the ideology.

The results for this question are very varied, with many participants choosing various artists across the board. The two most popular artists were Phil Collins and blink-182 at a 60.9% popularity rate, followed closely by Queen and Green Day at 56.5% popularity rate. From these results, I can get a general idea of what my target audience want to see in terms of artists within my magazine.

The results for this question were largely unanimous, as a large percent of participants (78.3%) listen to music via streaming services. These findings link with my ideology, in which mentions the target audience using streaming services frequently.

Similar to the last question, the results were unanimous as the majority of participants  (69.6%) said that they do not read music magazines. However, there were a small minority who said that they read the Billboard Magazine which gives me an insight of what appeals to them in terms of house style and artists.

It is evident from this question that most of the participants (60%) read magazines following their monthly issues, which is the most logical time frame. However, some have specified other (30%) which could infer that they may read either every two months or every three weeks and so on.

The results show that the majority (42.5%) pick up a magazine purely based on the artists featured within that certain issue. However, the largest minorities (21.7%) either chose "all of the above" or "Types of photos" which tell me that the main image is very important to my target audience.

From this question, I can see that most of the participants (39.1%) chose "all of the above" which shows that most of the target audience would like to see all of the features that they were asked about.

Most of the participants chose a price range from £2.01 to £3, which tells me that this is the most popular (and safe) price range to go with for the price for VibratoPress.

From the results, I can see that most of the participants (39.1%) chose more established artists over modern, showing me that those are the type of artists I need to be featuring within the magazine.
